Introduction
Our introduction to day hiking will give you the skills to confidently plan your own wilderness adventures. This session will teach you how to choose a hike, plan your day, select the appropriate gear, and practice essential on-trail self care. You will also cover vital safety scenarios and the all important 'Ten Essentials'.
Prerequisites
None - This event is for beginner day hikers or those just getting started.

Join Us
This skills session is designed for those just getting started exploring the great outdoors. You will learn how to select your own hiking destinations, plan your trips, and safely enjoy your own independent day hikes.
Our objectives include connecting you to local hiking information sources, reviewing the use of maps, predicting and planning for current conditions, effective clothing layer management, and important safety planning tools. You will also learn about the Ten Essentials required for a safe and comfortable hiking experience.
Your leader will bring their typical day hiking gear to review in this session. You will also receive a take home packet covering essential planning steps, information resources, and recommended gear lists for all seasons.

Itinerary
You will meet at our outdoor event space and get to know your group. Your leader will review day hiking options in our area, difficulty ratings, and informational resources. You will then plan a hike with your small group, create a complete plan, and discuss your choices.
Your leader will review the Ten Essentials, gear options, clothing and footwear choices, and recommended strategies. You will also discuss nutrition strategies, hydration, on-trail self care, risk assessment, and Leave No Trace wilderness ethics.
This session will include discussions of risk assessment, anticipation of on-trail hazards, and the creation of an emergency plan. Our objective is to teach you how to stay happy, stay safe, and stay found in every outdoor experience.
Expect to spend approximately 3 hours in an outdoor environment, Wear weather appropriate clothing to be outdoors for the duration of this session.

Spend the morning with Cascade Mountain Adventures learning how to become a safe, happy, and confident hiker.
